LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Center for Women and Families hosted its annual Speak Their Names event on Tuesday. It honors people in Jefferson County and Southern Indiana who lost their lives to domestic or intimate partner violence in the last year.

The event paid respects to 12 people killed as a result of intimate partner violence. Elizabeth Martin, president and chief empowerment officer for the Center for Women and Families, said the number of victims so far this year is down when compared to 2024, but she said more men are now coming forward and asking for help.

“We are seeing also an increase in men being injured,” she pointed out. “We’re seeing an increase in men coming into shelter to find safe places to be because their homes are no longer safe.”
