LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A group of Southern Indiana firefighters is breaking in some new gear after federal grant money helped out their department.
Members of the Highlander Fire Protection District tried on their new equipment Monday morning. They said it’s specifically measured for them.
The new gear was paid for by the ‘Assistance to Firefighter Grant’.
Firefighters there told WAVE they can’t remember the last time they’ve gotten new gear.
“We just hired a lot of firefighters here recently in the past few years, so that contributed to what some people may perceive as the slowness of getting new gear, and maybe it being missed,” Ryan Houchen with Highlander Fire Protection District said.
He says there are other contributing factors to the delay, including budget issues.
