An ambulance was stolen in the northern suburbs on Tuesday afternoon and later located on the Tristate Tollway, police said.

Illinois State Police told NBC Chicago the ambulance was stolen in Niles, though it wasn't immediately clear where the theft occurred. Elmhurst and Hinsdale police officers located the vehicle on Interstate 294 southbound near Ogden Avenue, state police said.

It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was arrested or if injuries were reported.
