MAYSVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The town of Maysville broke ground Tuesday morning on a new $4.2 million fire station.

The new building will replace the current firehouse, which has stood since the 1980s and served as the town’s main fire and rescue facility.

Maysville Fire Chief Michael Jordan said the old station is no longer big enough for today’s equipment.

“We’ve outgrown it,” Jordan said. “We’ve added more trucks. Trucks have gotten larger over the years. Space was super tight, so even getting a new truck today would be hard to get in there because of the lengths and requirements of them.”

The new station will allow crews to work more efficiently and improve emergency response times, according to county officials.
