CARROLL, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a hog manure spill that occurred in Carroll County.
Eric Baumhover, manager of B&B Custom Pumping, a certified manure applicator business, reported a manure spill to the DNR’s Atlantic Field Office on October 14. The incident occurred on the evening before.
Authorities say a hose blowout caused 5,000 galloons of manure to spill during land application at the Brady Boell hog confinement site at 25510 120th Street in Carroll. The DNR Field Office in Atlantic responded to the incident.
According to field staff, the applicator took immediate action by placing dams in multiple locations along the creek to prevent the manure from reaching Elk Run. Corn stalks were also used to absorb the spilled manure on the gro
