CARROLL, Iowa —
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating the spill of manure into a tributary in Carroll County.
DNR says the spill happened Monday night while B&B Custom Pumping was applying manure from the Brady Boell hog confinement site off 120th St. in Carroll. The agency says a hose blew, spilling approximately 5,000 gallons of manure.
The company immediately placed dams in several locations to contain the spill while continuing to pump it out of the creek. DNR says this prevented it from flowing to Elk Run. Corn stalks were also used to soak up the manure.
DNR says cleanup efforts continue as crews pump manure-laden water out of the creek. It will excavate soil as needed and has sent samples to the State Hygienic Laboratory for testing. No dead fish have been se
