Fresh clashes broke out Tuesday night between Pakistani security forces and the Afghan Taliban along the border in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Associated Press.
Pakistan’s state-run media blamed Afghan forces for firing the first shots without provocation, saying Pakistani troops returned fire and damaged several Afghan tanks and posts. Two Pakistani security officials confirmed the incident to AP.
According to the state broadcaster PTV News , "Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij opened unprovoked fire in Kurram. Pakistani Army responded with full force and intensity."
Islamabad said the Afghan side has repeatedly targeted its border posts. Kabul insists it’s responding to violations of its airspace and sovereignty.
