EAST GRAND FORKS — East Grand Forks Sacred Heart head coach Emily Vonasek received a game ball after Tuesday night’s bout with Northern Freeze.

Just like she did after her father bought her the ball from her first win as a coach, she earned one again for her 250th career coaching win — a 3-1 defeat of Northern Freeze.

The win represents an era of competitiveness that Vonasek, a Sacred Heart graduate and former player, was eager to bring to the program. She wanted to turn those 4-17 years into 17-4 years.

“It was a long time coming," Vonasek said. "We were always considered the underdog. So, I think turning the program around with consistency and coaching has been the key. You have to stay year after year, and you have to fight for your program, and fight for your athletes."
