AUSTIN, Texas — Parents across South Austin are voicing concerns over Austin ISD’s proposal to close and consolidate more than a dozen campuses , including six in their own neighborhoods. A Q&A session on the proposed consolidation plan was the focus of a virtual meeting on Tuesday night.

Among the schools facing potential closure is Widen Elementary, where families told KVUE the news has left them stunned and scrambling for answers.

“They need to slow down. They need to reevaluate this and get more options,” said Patrick Perez, a parent at Widen. “Because when you close the school, you’re closing down a community.”
