LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The second victim from the school shooting at Evergreen High School was released from a hospital in Lakewood on Tuesday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
Matthew Silverstone, 18, was shot and critically wounded at the school on Sept. 10. He was rushed to St. Anthony Hospital after the shooting and had remained there for more than a month, receiving treatment.
Silverstone was shot twice, in the chest and the head, and his family said in a statement that his recovery is miraculous.
"After emergency surgeries, the doctors prepared us for the worst," the family's statement said. "But Matthew has never given up. He can now speak. In fact, he is happy to tell you 'I’m still alive!'"
