COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Next week, 23 new firefighters with CSFD will graduate and begin their careers in the Springs.

But that’s the last class CSFD will see for at least a year, as they’re cancelling next year’s academy because of budget concerns.

“We decided that we had to look at all the different options, we did across the board, to not have an academy next year really equates to that 1.1 million (dollars),” Fire Chief Randy Royal said.

But even with these new graduates, Chief Royal told 11 News that firefighters will most likely be working overtime, and if there is a Training Academy next year, the class size would be smaller.

“If we can hold off, we’re gonna try to do that through 26,” Royal said, “if not, we’ll look at ways, and it might be a smaller academy, maybe 10-
