Indian-American expert Ashley Tellis, a former US administration official who played a key role in the Indo-US nuclear deal, was arrested on charges of “unlawful retention of national defense information”, the US Department of Justice said early Wednesday morning IST.
Tellis had worked with former US ambassador to India Robert Blackwill and had also served on the White House National Security Council staff under Republican President George W Bush.
The Tata Chair for Strategic Affairs and a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Tellis has been accused by the Justice Department of “printing out classified documents and storing more than 1,000 pages of highly sensitive government records in filing cabinets and trash bags at home”, according to The Associated Pre
