CARROLL COUNTY, Georgia — Residents in Villa Rica’s Mirror Lake community are pushing back against two proposed road projects that could lead to the demolition of their homes. At a city council meeting Tuesday night, families held a silent protest and voiced their opposition to the city’s use of eminent domain to complete the Villa Rica Parkway and another connector road aimed at linking Douglas County to downtown.

The conflict began in September 2024 when the city announced plans to expand Villa Rica Parkway, a project intended to better connect the growing region. While part of the road has been completed, construction came to a halt after officials discovered that many parcels of land along the proposed route were still privately owned.
