The 2-gigawatt Kent Offshore Wind Project on the Gippsland coast, considered the centrepiece of Victoria’s renewable energy transition, has been dumped as global energy companies continue to flee the Australian market.
Victoria’s offshore wind industry has faced significant headwinds in recent months with US-backed energy giant BlueFloat Energy announcing in July it would scrap a mammoth facility on the Gippsland coast.
The company was racing to lock down a buyer for the embattled project, however announced that it had failed to drum up interest and that the wind farm would be indefinitely dumped.
