Listed by Christine R. Lane of Compass New Jersey in October, the six-bedroom, five-bathroom home at 655 Lake St. in Newark’s tony Forest Hill section was built for Joseph L. Smith and his wife Florence Fitzsimmons. The son of U.S. Senator James Smith Jr., Joseph L. Smith was a Newark-based lawyer who became a U.S. district attorney before spending 28 years behind the bench in New Jersey courts.
