BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A celebration for the achievements of blind or visually impaired Vermonters kicks off on Wednesday.

Wednesday is White Cane Awareness Day, a national observance celebrated on October 15 since 1984.

The occasion celebrates the important tool for independence for blind people: a white cane.

Across Vermont, there are events in Burlington, St. Johnsbury, Barre, and Bellows Falls to celebrate.
