A doctor is urging people not to skip breakfast. The message backs the findings of a study that uncovered a worrying link between the bad morning habit and an increased risk of dying from a heart attack - and numerous other health problems.

The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology , found that skipping breakfast was associated with a significantly higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Experts have emphasised the "benefits of eating breakfast", reinforcing the idea that it could indeed be the most important meal of the day.
