BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Shelburne police officer who admitted to hitting and killing a cyclist is no longer employed by the town.

That’s according to Shelburne town manager Matt Lawless. He says the selectboard fired Kapitanski Tuesday night in a closed session.

Last month, Kyle Kapitanski took a plea deal that allowed him to avoid any jail time in the November 2024 crash that killed 38-year-old Sean Hayes.

The family still has an active civil case against the town of Shelburne.
