JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney announced during Tuesday’s City Council meeting that he will not seek re-election, stating that he is choosing to prioritize his family.
“I am not running for anything,” Mahoney said. “It would take a direct message from God to convict me to run for elected office in this next year because I’m choosing to put my family first.”
Mahoney was first elected mayor in 2021 and re-elected in 2023.
He has more than 400 days remaining in his current term, which ends in December 2026.
