MONTGOMERY – Receiving a new freezer may not seem like a life-altering event to most folks, but to Regional Food Bank Hudson Valley, it’s a game-changer.

On Tuesday, the food bank’s distribution center in Montgomery officially received a $50,000 capital improvement grant from the New York State Assembly.

That grant will allow it to offer a wider variety of perishable food to more people in the six counties it serves.

Executive Vice President Felicia Kalan said the money will be used to purchase a new, state-of-the-art, energy-efficient freezer.

This will allow local community food banks to acquire items such as meat, fish, frozen foods and other perishable items that were previously more difficult to acquire.
