The subject of centre-backs has been a hot topic of conversation among Birmingham City supporters this season.

Ever-present captain Christoph Klarer has had three partners in Blues’ opening nine Championship games as a position of strength has become problematic for manager Chris Davies.

One man who was never going to be part of the equation for Davies was Dion Sanderson. Former Blues skipper Sanderson is still on the books, but he will spend the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Derby County under John Eustace.

Sanderson only played twice in League One for Davies last season and on his second appearance, a brief cameo against Northampton, he made a meal of a long ball and it resulted in Blues dropping points in stoppage time.
