NORTHPORT, Ala. —

A suspect is dead after a chase that ended in shots fired between law enforcement and the suspect Wednesday, according to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (VCU).

At about 2:30 a.m. Tuscaloosa County deputies joined in a pursuit with Hale County deputies and Moundville police that had crossed into Tuscaloosa County.

The suspect's vehicle came to a stop after its tires were spiked. It stopped at Bell Auto Parts at 410 Bridge Avenue in Northport.

That's when the suspect was killed during a shootout with law enforcement, according to the VCU.

The Violent Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation. Because the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was involved, the investigation will be conducted by those who are not affiliated with TCSO.
