RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A new study reveals that many North Carolinians are concerned about their safety following high-profile violent crime incidents.
Elon University Poll surveyed 800 NC adults from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, which is after the stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte light rail and the mass shooting at a waterfront bar in Southport.
Here's what the poll found:
61% of participants felt unsafe in outdoor areas with large crowds
59% felt unsafe on public transportation
49% were concerned about safety in schools
When asked about specific cities:
49% had safety concerns about Durham or Charlotte.
42% about Winston-Salem.
41% about Raleigh or Greensboro.
