Hamilton police seized a loaded handgun, hundreds of grams of crystal meth and cocaine Monday following the arrest of two young men who allegedly fled the scene of a collision.

Police said the Oct. 13 hit-and-run involved a black Nissan that struck a vehicle parked in the area of Province Street South.

Witnesses reported seeing two men jump out of the Nissan, remove backpacks from the trunk and flee on foot.

Police said officers quickly contained the crash area and then arrested the suspects, who were found in possession of a loaded handgun, more than one kilogram of crystal meth, around 640 grams of cocaine, an assortment of hydromorphone pills and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police pegged the street value of the drugs at more than $86,000.
