WARE SHOALS — Questions about transparency and the town’s shrinking police force surfaced during back-to-back committee meetings Monday at Ware Shoals Town Hall.

New chief reports to council

During the Public Safety Committee meeting, newly hired Police Chief Tommy Clamp, who started Oct. 10, gave his first report to council members Kim Jensen, Patty Walters and Michael Powell. Clamp told the committee the department handled 554 calls in September and that only two officers remain on staff, himself and Sgt. Kenneth Sibley.

Jensen confirmed that Corp. Jared Hiler, who served as K-9 supervisor, resigned effective Oct. 5. Hiler’s Sept. 19 resignation letter states his canine partner Zephyr was purchased from the town prior to his departure.
