WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Multiple people were reported injured Wednesday morning, October 15, including a Virginia State Police trooper and two Wythe County Sheriff’s deputies, during a rescue attempt after a tractor trailer crash closed Interstate 81 southbound in Wythe County.

At 4:16 a.m., a Toyota Corolla went off of the left side of the highway at mile marker 66; the vehicle struck a guardrail and stopped in the left lane. The driver got out of the vehicle, according to officials.

Afterward, two tractor trailers moved to avoid the wrecked Corolla and driver; the tractor trailers collided and overturned, causing one of them to catch on fire, said troopers.
