Picket lines at Algonquin College and La Cité were lifted Wednesday after college support workers and the province reached a tentative agreement.

About 10,000 full-time support workers at 24 colleges across the province went on strike on Sept. 11. The College Employer Council (CEC), the province’s negotiating agent, and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) reached the agreement after a weekend-long mediation session with mediator William Kaplan.

Details of the agreement have not been released. The deal will be up for ratification on Nov. 4.

The mediation “broke a bargaining impasse,” said CEC in a statement. Picketing at all Ontario colleges has ended and employees are to return to work on Thursday.
