TYLER, Texas — Smith County commissioners on Tuesday approved a new pay structure for animal control staff in the upcoming fiscal year, creating separate positions for the shelter coordinator and the animal control supervisor.

“We're making some changes today. As everyone knows, we've had some changes within animal control, and so it's forced us to look at the staffing structure and so we're making changes,” Smith County Judge Neal Franklin said.

With the approval for the positions and their pay, the jobs will now be posted to fill these positions. Officials say the change will offer more flexibility in staffing.
