COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – No injuries were reported Tuesday when a logging truck was hit by an oncoming Amtrak train.
Colleton County Fire Rescue said the crash happened at a private crossing on Weiss Lane around 8:51 a.m.
Officials said the loaded logging truck pulled into the path of a northbound Amtrak train and was struck on the rear of the trailer. “The trailer received heavy damage and many of the logs were displaced and damaged, sending debris along the tracks and blocking the small dirt road,” said CCFR.
The train's engine was also damaged; however, the train remained on the tracks and safety stopped less than a mile north of the collision.
Officials said none of the 48 people and crew on the train were injured, nor was the driver of that logging truck.
