KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Work on U.S. 131 as it passes over KL Avenue is expected to wrap up in late November.
But KL Avenue will remain closed until June 2026 as part of the three-year, $24 million project, per a Michigan Department of Transportation release.
Drivers should expect single-lane closures on southbound U.S. 131 from 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 through 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 as traffic shifts onto the new lanes and bridge.
Crews will then begin removing the temporary lanes and bridge.
Work on two U.S. 131 overpasses carrying traffic over KL Avenue and the Amtrak rail just north of I-94 began in 2024, per MDOT.
KL Avenue will remain closed and is getting its own upgrades, including a rebuilt road, sanitary sewer, culverts and a nonmotorized path.
