BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - Stellantis unveiled plans Tuesday to reopen its idled Belvidere assembly plant as part of a massive $13 billion production expansion in the United States.
Belvidere plant to produce Jeep models
Stellantis says it will invest more than $600 million to restart the Belvidere plant to expand production of the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass for the U.S. market.
The automaker says initial production launch in Belvidere is expected in 2027 and is projected to create 3,300 new jobs.
In a Facebook post Tuesday , United Auto Workers Local 1268 President Matt Frantzen alerted workers to the announcement, saying in part:
