Gov. Phil Murphy and a host of state officials and advocates came together Oct. 15 to break ground for the state’s new women’s correctional facility.

Murphy was joined by state Department of Corrections Commissioner Victoria Kuhn, state Treasurer Liz Muoio and several other community members to commemorate the start of work on a facility that the state says is designed with an emphasis on safety, dignity and rehabilitation.

Where is the new NJ women's prison?

The new facility will house 420 beds on a 33-acre parcel in Chesterfield Township in Burlington County. Essential services such as dining, education, social services, vocational training, medical care and recreation will be centrally located.
