OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — With tons of new projects and companies coming to Oak Ridge, the sound of construction can be heard all over town. But with the government shutdown continuing into its second week, that construction is starting to slow down.

"Y'know of course, we do have members calling that are concerned. It does seem like it's week-to-week new updates and different concerns," Daniel Smith, Business Manager for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 270 branch, said.

IBEW Local 270 said members who work with the Department of Energy are questioning if their projects will have enough funding on their own to keep operations running through the shutdown.

And with hundreds of members at IBEW Local 270, the union is looking for private sector jobs to keep them at work.
