MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont state senator is under mounting pressure to resign after being caught in a leaked racist group chat with young Republicans from across the country.
Politico reported on the controversy Tuesday involving Orleans County Senator Sam Douglass .
Seven GOP lawmakers from the Northeast Kingdom are now calling for Douglass’ resignation.
Governor Phil Scott, who endorsed Douglass in last year’s elections, also called on him to step down. “We should reject any of what we saw in that article; we should reject it out of hand. No tolerance, zero tolerance for that. We’re better than that,” Scott said Wednesday.
