MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Madison Fire Department is putting out safety tips Wednesday regarding lithium ion batteries after an electric scooter caught fire earlier this week.
MFD said the report of a fire came in around 9 p.m. Monday from the 1200 block of Lawrence Street, on the city’s south side.
The caller told MFD that a friend had been charging an electric scooter inside a camper when the scooter caught fire. Both individuals got the scooter out of the camper and tried to smother the flames with a grill cover, which did not work.
MFD said Engine Co. 6 arrived and the caller told firefighters to go to the home’s backyard.
Firefighters put out the fire with a water can extinguisher. No other buildings or objects were damaged in the fire.
