PORTLAND, Ore. — An 18-year-old pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide last week in the death of 17-year-old Ava Crews . She was killed in May while riding as a passenger in a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) that crashed on Sauvie Island, at the home of a former Scappoose School District board member .
Ayden Heard was sentenced to probation and will not spend any time in prison.
Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies responded on May 18 to a report of a person not breathing after a rollover crash around 12:40 a.m. on Northwest Gillihan Road. They found a teenager, later identified as Ava Crews, dead at the private property. She was a student at Scappoose High School.
