WORCESTER, Mass. —
More than a dozen members of law enforcement were honored Wednesday with the Trooper George L. Hanna Award for Bravery.
The awards are given out every year to recognize extraordinary acts of courage by Massachusetts police officers.
Malden's Amanda Grenier, the only female awardee, was heralded for her composure, de-escalation skill, and overall excellence in policing.
Last May, she faced a suspect who was charging at officers with a kitchen knife. Tasers did not stop him.
"Perceiving the lethal danger, Officer Grenier fired two rounds and hit suspect in shoulder," the announcer said.
Grenier said it was a huge honor to receive the prestigious award.
"I am blown away to be part of this," she said. "I am speechless, to be honest."
