NEW ORLEANS — Daniel Callihan, accused of , appeared in federal court in New Orleans on Friday for a hearing to assess his competency to stand trial.

But, as WWL's Winston Reed reports, Judge Lance Africk could not come to a determination on whether Callihan was competent to stand trial and ordered another evaluation.

Dr. Sarah DeLand testified that Callihan was competent at the time of her most recent evaluation, but that the stress of a trial could cause his mental condition to deteriorate.

Judge Africk said after reviewing the evaluations and hearing Dr. DeLand's testimony, he was concerned about the thoroughness of the mental examination.

Africk said he needed more information and wanted to get the opinion of another psychiatrist.
