A strong gas smell at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Wednesday afternoon that had passengers temporarily evacuated from impacted areas in domestic terminals has since been resolved after FortisBC reported finding a “small release of gas” nearby.

YVR issued a statement just after 1 p.m. Wednesday of a strong smelling odour at the airport.

By 3:20 p.m., YVR announced, “Operations have resumed following a smell of gas detected in parts of YVR’s domestic terminal shortly after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.”

Richmond Fire and Rescue crews were on scene evacuating passengers from key areas in the domestic terminal.

YVR stated the evacuation was conducted “out of an abundance of caution,” adding that “the source of the odour was swiftly identified and contained.”
