PORT NECHES, Texas — Southeast Texans from Jefferson to Jasper County are mourning the loss of Port Neches Mayor Glenn Johnson, who died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont.

Friends and colleagues are remembering late Mayor Johnson for his dedication to Port Neches.

Mayor Johnson served the city for nearly 30 years, with 23 of those years as mayor.

"The City of Port Neches is going to have some really big shoes to fill," said Chris Borne, mayor of the City of Groves.

Port Neches City Manager André Wimer said Johnson dedicated his life to the City of Port Neches.

"The mayor had a lot of pride in Port Neches and he was probably the community's greatest advocate," Wimer said.

Johnson initially served as a city councilman, later taking office as mayor in November 2002. Wime
