An urgent search is on for a murder suspect accused of gunning down a mother of five in Mesquite.

Police discovered Keisha Hilliard, 42, dead of a gunshot wound during a welfare check on Sunday afternoon, according to the Mesquite Police Department (MPD).

“I want her to be remembered as that fun, awesome person,” said the victim’s mother, Donna Hilliard. “She loves her kids. When I say love, LOVE them.”

Hilliard says the welfare check also led to another grim discovery inside the house in the 2000 block of Avis Circle: two children, including Keisha’s six-month-old baby, who were unharmed.

“That is something you don’t want a child to experience,” she said.

Keisha, Hilliard says, designed clothing to make ends meet. She also wrote a book and loved to grow her own food in her backyard.
