The bridge carrying Route 107 over the Saugus River in Lynn and Saugus is closed for an extended period after a recent inspection found the structure was in need of repairs.

The existing bridge over the river is itself a temporary structure, due to ongoing repairs of the Belden G. Bly Bridge, which began in August 2020. Construction of the new bridge is nearly complete, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation .

Following an inspection, officials determined “vehicle loads must be removed from the affected sections until appropriate repairs can be completed” to ensure safety on the bridge, according to an advisory issued by MassDOT and posted on Saugus’ website .
