MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Tensions escalate in Memphis as some Latino community members claim they are being unfairly targeted by the Memphis Safe Community Task Force, a joint law enforcement initiative aimed at reducing violent crime.

Mauricio Calvo, Executive Director of Latino Memphis, appeared on News Channel 3 at 3 voiced concerns that the task force's operations are having unintended negative impacts on immigrant families and the local economy.

"We’re getting calls at the office where people are just being pulled over and no tickets are issued," Calvo told WREG. "They're pulled over by a state trooper, followed by ICE officers — and if this is not true, then show us the proof. Show us the traffic violations. Show us the charges."
