POST, Texas -- Since the Garza County Giles W. Dalby Correctional Facility shut down in Oct. 2024, Garza County commissioner Giles W. Dalby Jr. had been looking for a new operator to open it back up. About halfway into the search, the state of Texas showed interest in the facility.
"We submitted proposals for a new operator after our other operator left. So, we interviewed and we got a couple of good offers from operators," Dalby said. "The new owner is the state of Texas."
After six months of inspections, the county sold the prison to the state which would make it cheaper and faster for the state to re-open, instead of upgrading older prisons.
