PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Agatucci’s restaurant in Peoria is turning 100 years old next year, reaching a milestone few businesses see in Peoria.

Peoria city leaders came out to the restaurant on Wednesday to honor the achievement by dedicating the intersection of University Street and Gift Avenue to the beloved pizzeria, naming it Via Agatucci.

The restaurant was opened as a store in 1926 by Vincenzo Agatucci, an Italian immigrant.

Mayor Rita Ali said Agatucci’s is more than a restaurant.

“It’s been a gathering place, a tradition, and a living piece of our city’s history,” Ali said.

Co-Owner Tony Agatucci said seeing all the familiar faces come out to celebrate their four-generation, family-owned restaurant was an honor, and he’s thankful for the support over the years.
