COLUMBIA, S.C. — Wednesday, October 15, was Seniors Day at the South Carolina State Fair, giving visitors aged 55 and older the chance to enjoy all the sights, sounds, and tastes of the fair for just $5 admission at the gate.

For many in the Midlands, the day offered a chance to relive cherished memories and make new ones.

“When the fair comes, it’s time to enjoy life,” said Leonard Chapman, a Columbia resident.

Church groups and senior organizations from across the region took advantage of the special day, strolling through the fairgrounds, enjoying the agriculture and sampling the food.

“I love to come and eat, walk around, and meet people — that’s about it,” said Shirley Robinson, a Columbia resident with Union Baptist church.
