Former St Kilda captain Jack Steele has poured his heart out in a sad farewell message to the club.

Steele was traded to the Demons for just a future third-round pick on trade deadline day .

The 29-year-old, who has been captain of the Saints since 2021, was contracted at the club until the end of 2027.

7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary revealed the Saints will still pay a portion of Steele’s salary at the Demons.

While Steele expressed excitement for the new chapter at Melbourne, it was clear he wanted to stay at the Saints as they embark on an exciting period on the back of four big recruits.
