On Thursday, residents across Washington state will participate in the annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, practicing essential safety measures like "drop, cover and hold on" to prepare for potential earthquakes.

Over 1.6 million people in Washington have registered to participate in the drill, including nearly 47,000 individuals in Spokane, according to the Spokane Regional Health District.

Spokane Public Schools, Central Valley Schools, East Valley Schools, West Valley Schools and Mead School District will be involved in this safety exercise.

The drill is set to begin at 10:16 a.m., offering schools, businesses and families an opportunity to practice their emergency response strategies.
