Cleveland Cliffs moves Steelton plant from ‘idled’ to closed

If the steel plant in Steelton is to come back to life, it won’t be doing so under the Cleveland Cliffs banner.

In a moment that many had anticipated since the company stopped production at the riverside plant earlier this year, Cleveland Cliffs gave notice Wednesday that it will close the plant effective Jan. 13, 2026.
