Certain brands of one of the country's most popular spices, cinnamon, could be hazardous to your health.
On Oct. 31, the Food and Drug Administration named two additional brands of ground cinnamon — DEVI and BaiLiFeng — whose products the agency said contain elevated levels of lead. In all, the agency has identified 18 cinnamon brands with concerning amounts of lead.
"Based on FDA's assessment, consuming these products could contribute to elevated levels of lead in the blood," the government agency said in its latest alert.
The FDA has asked companies to recall the products. To date, 12 of the 18 ground cinnamon brands identified by the agency have issued recall announcements.
